I recently came across
Kazu Kibuishi’s work on the web, and boy am I glad. He’s a comic book artist, but amazingly so. Not content to just draw one thing, he’s all over the map, and quite prolific. I like that.
He created and drew the elegant and entertaining Daisy Kutter books, as well as online favorites Copper and Clive & Cabbage. My kids love these last two, and are impatiently awaiting the next installment of Copper. In fact, Copper is one of those rare strips that brings back the good things about Calvin and Hobbes, and that is high praise indeed, but it’s definitely earned.

As if that wasn’t enough, he is the editor as well as a contributor to the
Flight series of comics anthologies. It seems to have started off as a collection of Kazu’s friends. But since he’s good, and his friends are good, and everyone involved in the project seems to have good taste, the
Flight series is a highlight of the comics industry.
Kibuishi also shares his process with his fans, which is a rare and valuable treat. Any artists among you harboring a secret desire to draw comics, look at this page at your own risk: comic fever is contagious. At least I found it so.
