This kind of stuff really appeals to me. Does that surprise you? Do you ever see this influence in my work, say, on Moon Town? Because really, that was much more the plan, at least in the beginning. Look at this:

1. The desire to create something detailed, beautiful, and well-lit. Something you can believe in. Something you feel like you can reach out and grab. The following samples are by Arild Wiro, and I just love them.
The other side is:
2. Yannick Puig’s “I Lived on the Moon”. These shapes are so simple. They’re much more like the 2D stuff from Rocket Town, but in 3D, which is interesting. They’re simple like the StudioAKA Pica Towers stuff is simple. And yet, they have tons of charm.
But as I mull over the look and feel and future of Moon Town, these are the things that occur to me.

I am right there with you man. Infact, I was building a model last night and I kept having to go back and start over in certain areas because it was becoming way to detailed and “traditional” looking.
It is actually alot harder than it looks to keep things simple, clean, and elegant. Go figure!
You said it, Matt. With me, when I go Simple, it doesn’t seem finished. Simple for me so often seems TOO simple.
But then, Detailed for me is so often TOO detailed. What an odd line to walk. You’d think it would be easier than this. But I guess if your tastes were solidly on one side or the other, it would be eaier, but when your tastes lie right on the line… yeah, I guess that’s why it’s more difficult to suss out. *shrug*
The story of my life. Once I get the idea for a project, I don’t have a problem choosing a look. But it’s staying with a project that I always struggle with. Sometimes I like to do cartoony stuff, other times realistic projects. The constant struggle between which project to work on often keeps me from finishing any project. Though shoot the moon is almost done. YAY!!
Well, congratulations, Sky! That’s excellent news, and a real triumph to stick to it through to the end.
With me, it’s not so much sticking with stuff. I finish plenty of stuff. It’s that I start more than I finish, certainly, but it’s really more that I have a hard time committing to the look and feel. Like I say, simple begins to look too simple or unfinished, and less simple begins to look overworked and overdone. Hard for me to find that balance, I guess.
