Hi, Kori

Yep, it's been a long, sad march toward smaller horizons for Cyan. It's just very sad. They seem to keep limping along, but I'm not sure I'd recognize the operation anymore. Most of the folks I knew are gone.

Josh Staub works for Disney now, believe it or not. He did the lighting on their new animated feature Bolt, and did a great job, if you ask me.

I know Josh occasionally reads this blog. Maybe he'll be gracious and write you a note here. Josh?

That’s really sad news for me. CYAN was always a magical place to me. I have posters of Myst and Riven images on my office walls.

Does anyone know if Josh Staub is still working at Cyan? He was part of the original Myst game team. I spoke with him on AnimWatch a few times about the making of Riven.

It’s hard to accept the idea that Cyan may have to close. The world will be a poorer place if they close their doors.

They've shut down, and laid off, and limped along for years. This is a pretty massive layoff. Their main business for the past couple of years has been their testing facility. I think the production staff - artists and programmers - have been laid off or unemployed one way or another for 6 months or more.

But the QA wing was the one hope I think for bouncing back. To see them drop from 50 to 7 employees... It's a pretty heavy hit. I guess we'll see.
