The latest edition of the Steve Ogden Braincast is up online – the first BrainCast of 2010. Moon Town book number one is for sale! In this episode, I talk about where you can get it, what I learned while creating the cover, and what it has to do with Van Halen and Mozart. I also talk about Duncan Jones’ Moon and James Cameron’s Avatar. Music by Tim Larkin.

Let there be clanging of bells and hollering of loud phrases – the Moon Town books have arrived, and they look great! I’ve posted more info about the book book HERE, and I’ve posted a low-resolution PDF so you can see how the book flows in its printed format.

For those of you who don’t want to wait for the info and the sample, the book is currently available through the WishTales store, which is slowly populating. Enjoy!

A few years back, I profiled Cristobal Vila and his film Snakes at AnimWatch. He’s got a new film which illustrates the Fibonacci sequence, golden ratios and more. It’s lyrical and beautiful with Cristobal’s trademark combination of classical music, hypnotically mathematical animation and graceful camera moves which present the viewer with ever-changing perspectives on his complex imagery.

All right. This advert is pretty funny – What happens when you bring together the beautiful game, amazing costumes from the ultimate football nation – we’re talking Brazil of course – and everyone’s favourite Dutch export? Whatever you’re imagining, it’s probably not this…

Jetpack!!!

It has become common among sci-fi fans to express disappointment that the shiny future we were promised once upon a childhood – flying cars, jetpacks, videophones, robot assistants – hasn’t completely come to pass. Not sure about the flying cars or robot assistants, although I’m sure they’re not far off at this point.

As for the videophones, they exist, though maybe not exactly in the form you’d expect. Video conferencing and Skype seem to be filling that role at the moment, but can actual video-transmitting phones be far behind?

But as far as the jetpack goes, we can officially stop whining: for a mere $86,000, you can soon purchase your very own Martin jet pack. Let the people say Amen.

CoyoteTrax

Another day, another review of Moon Town. This one’s at Coyote Trax’s webcomic critique, and is not quite as stellar as the others the strip has received to this point. Not sure about the pedigree of the reviewer, or what he looks for in webcomics, but he takes issue with several features of Moon Town. Makes for interesting reading.

Filmmaker Fabrice O. Jouberts directs “French Roast”, an animated short which explores the many layers of human nature. It’s well designed, well written, well animated. You can watch it repeatedly. Just really great stuff!

There’s a very positive review of Moon Town at Tall Tale Features. If you’re not familiar with TTF, it’s a collective of extremely talented big time cartoonists. Their positive take on my little comic is very humbling! Thanks, guys!
