I am honored and somewhat surprised to announce that Moon Town has been named by Baltimore Magazine as the Best Online Graphic Novel in their annual Best of Baltimore issue. The magazine is on newsstands and available for your iPod and other eReaders right now, and it appears you will need to purchase the issue in order to see the entire list of 280 restaurants, businesses and artsy things that have been selected as the Best this year.

Shameless Plug: Moon Town books are still available from WishTales Publishing while supplies last!

For those of you who have been anxiously awaiting the next installment of Moon Town, this was just the kind of shot in the arm I needed, so stay tuned for more Moon Town resuming this week!

Thank you, Baltimore!

Wouldn’t it be nice to pause in our quest to become the Dumbest People Ever and get our kids interested in Math and Science? There’s always the Google Science Fair, sort of like a reality show complete with cash and prizes, but based on Science.

Google is looking for the brightest young scientists from around the world to submit interesting, creative projects that are relevant to the world today. The competition is open to students aged 13 to 18 from around the world working on their own or in a team of two or three. For more details, visit the Google Science Fair Rules page. If your head is still stuck on the previous paragraph, yes, I said “cash” and “prizes” and “science”. What sort of cash? How about a scholarship of $50,000 to be shared by your team? What sort of prizes? What about a trip to the Galapagos Islands with National Geographic Expeditions? As you can see, this isn’t a bag of free pencils with your school’s name etched on the side – this is The Big Time. How can you refuse!? What sort of science? Heh heh… that’s your little red wagon, isn’t it? What will you do?

Registration ends APR 4, 2011. Yes, tomorrow. Yes, time’s short, but the world needs your excellent project idea for… well, now, what exactly is it? Wouldn’t it be a fun evening’s work to come up with a team project tonight? Get over to the Google Science Fair site and flex your grey matter!

In case I don’t get a chance to say so over the next couple of days, I wish you a Happy New Year! In fact, here’s an animated New Year’s Greeting for you, direct from me!

People I’ve shared this with have asked me how I did it, and as much as I’d love to take credit myself, the card in fact comes from MusicBox by SonicMaster. It’s a lot of fun… they have this cool little app at their website where you can upload a picture of yourself, record a little message and send these little animated personalized messages to people. It was much easier to use than I thought, and the way that the character moves around with your face on it is hysterical. As for the “recorded message” I left you all, I’m sure you could record something nice, but I decided to go with my ridiculous Krusty the Clown laugh. I don’t know why, but it just seemed appropriate for a Happy New Year message.  But that’s me. I’m still cracking up over it, and isn’t that the Happy part of a Happy New Year?

I wish you a new year full of big laughs, and I’ll talk to you in 2011!

For those of you keeping track, I thought I’d offer you a look at my progress on my six-page story for Brock Heasley’s SuperFogeys Origins: The Thrice Evil. All six pages are laid out and lettered, and the first three pages are penciled (and almost approved… at this writing, Brock hasn’t gotten back to me on the final pencils for page three, but I’m confident he’ll be doing so very soon.) And I’ve done the inks for the first page.

Above is a glimpse at a small portion of the pencils for page one. Below is a glimpse of an inking of that same area. After the inks are approved, I’ll be coloring it, so look for an update on that in the next few days.

The Thrice Evil will begin running in December.

I want as many fans as I can get on the Moon Town Facebook Fan Page. You want an original Moon Town inking. I think we can help each other:

1. Join the Moon Town Facebook Fan Page (if you haven’t already).
2. Suggest the page to your friends! To do that:

  • On the left side of the Moon Town Facebook page, click “Suggest to Friends”
  • Then select your friends by clicking on them in the window that appears
  • Then click “Send Invitations” at the bottom of the window
  • Watch the number of fans grow!

On November 1, I will hold a drawing from all the members of the Moon Town Facebook page. If we’re over 500 members, one lucky member will win, and if we’re over 1000 members, three lucky members will win! Increase your chances of winning and tell your friends today! Tweet it! Blog it! Facebook it! See you there!

It’s time for me to ask for your help.
