Since my announcement that I would be cancelling Magnificatz, I have been overwhelmed by the kind letters and emails I have received from Magnificatz fans. Some people have shared with me how the strip has gotten them through some tough times in their lives. Others have shared with me that the strip is part of their morning routine and they would be sad to miss it. Others pointed out to me that Magnificatz is a vital and rare voice of optimism and positivity in an increasingly snarky internet landscape. In particular, people mourned the coming departure of Sam from their lives, and that was the thing that ultimately got to me.
So I have decided to renew the strip for one more season. I may not be able to do the strip 3 times a week – maybe only one or two – but I will commit to continuing the strip through December and re-evaluate then.
Thank you for all the support, and for letting me know what the strip means to you!
It is with a heavy heart and great disappointment that I announce the end of Magnificatz. Even after three years and three incarnations, not to mention the amazing exposure opportunity at GoComics, the strip has failed to find a mass audience. During the same period, I have seen other strips outperform Magnificatz by leaps and bounds. I see how the successful strips are different in both tone and performance. I have to admit my strip does not have what it takes to make it in the current comics climate, so I’ll be ending it August 31, 2016.
Moving forward, I will put my energy into my other properties, Moon Town and Braincast, both of which seem to garner a much greater readership. I hope you will follow me at one or both of those comics. Those of you who loved the strip, thank you for your continued readership and support, and I join you in your disappointment. – Steve Ogden
Here’s a little bit of fun – Magnificatz is in print as a fill-in feature in Harford’s Heart magazine, our local arts and entertainment gazette! First appearance, the Jun-July 2016 issue. It’s like a fun little surprise – Magz in the mag!
Reason 587 why Magnificatz fans are the best: this morning, in order to wake up and function, I injected my blood-donated and exhausted body full of this amazing coffee from a fan in Oregon. Black Thunder – Caravan Oregon Roasted coffee. Holy Moley. It is what the doctor ordered.
Sharp-eyed fans may notice the roasting date – APR 25, 2016 – as the date Magnificatz went live atGoComics. This coffee (and another great bag of beans) was roasted on that date and sent to me in honor of Magz’ syndicated debut.
I’m happy to report that Magnificatz is now online aside Calvin and Hobbes and Pearls Before Swine at Universal Uclick’s GoComics portal.
Magnificatz.com will continue to be the home for all things Magnificatz. I will continue running the strip here, but it will be delayed one week behind the GoComics run. So if you want the latest, catch it at GoComics. Subscribe, why don’tcha? It is the best thing you can do to ensure Magnificatz continued success.
See you there!
